HC is HCC Insurance Holdings' principal insurance company subsidiary.  HC is a Texas-domiciled property and casualty insurance company operating on a surplus lines basis in the United States, except in Texas where it operates as an admitted insurer, and worldwide in accident & health, directors’ & officers’ liability, errors & omissions and aviation insurance.  HC receives business through independent agents and brokers, HCC’s underwriting agencies and reinsurance brokers and other insurance and reinsurance companies.

As of December 31, 2008, HC had statutory policyholders' surplus of $1.3 billion, gross written premium of $586.4 million and net written premium of $372.0 million.
